Pinn River SEND School

From crane planning to the final film: a clearer view of the build for Kier and its stakeholders.

A clear view throughout the build.

Across 24 visits, roughly every three weeks, Vidda documented Pinn River SEND School inside and out. With the site near an airport, a detailed tree-height survey informed crane planning against both tree clearance and the airport permit’s maximum height when the crane was fully erected. Repeat imagery and progress films kept the project team and client informed.

Render-to-reality visuals connected the live build to its finished design. The dated site record also helped Kier resolve contractor cost discussions amicably, with savings greater than the cost of the drone work.

Check the crane against trees and airport limits.

Before assembly, the crane’s planned full height needed to clear the surrounding trees without exceeding the maximum allowed by its airport permit. A detailed aerial tree-height survey gave Kier the measurements to check both constraints during crane planning.

“Brilliant stuff, and thanks for turning it around so quickly!”

Show progress. Make the future visible.

Repeat aerial views helped Kier show its client how the school was progressing. Combining current site imagery with the design render guided the conversation from what was built now to how the finished school would look. The progress film brought those changing views together into a shareable update.

A reliable record when details mattered.

Dated aerial imagery gave Kier an objective record of site status when discussing costs with a supplier. It helped clarify what had been completed and supported a constructive resolution.

The resulting saving exceeded the cost of the drone project.

“We are very happy with the drone footage.”

Documenting progress inside.

Filming extended into the school’s corridors, recording their condition and progress as the interior took shape.

These views complemented the aerial record with a closer look at the spaces being built inside.

“Thank you very much, it looks amazing. Well done.”
